1 Silver Cloth
A dress material of French manufacture made of special yarns, composed of 80 per cent of wool and 20 per cent of vegetable silk, or Asclepios cotton. Mostly plain weave. A silver cloth was patented in 1934 after considerable research. The method finally covered by patent was to immerse the cloth in a solution of silver nitrate and follow this treatment by precipitation of the silver in the fibres by means of sodium carbonate. The resulting silver cloth actually contains about 9 per cent of silver and has a decided brown colour due to the silver oxide. -
2 Alpaca Cloth
The name is derived from the Spanish term for the Vicuna. The wool is mixed with silk or cotton and the yarn woven into a thin durable cloth for both men's and women's wear. Sir Titus Salt introduced the wool into Yorkshire, and it is now used for the manufacture of alpacas, lustres, silk warp alpaca, alpaca mixtures, mohair linings and numerous other cloths. -
3 Bark Cloth
A cloth on the American market used for the manufacture of shopping bags, book covers and embroidery mats. It is the product of an East African tree of the genus " fiscus." The fibre is easily spun although the staple is short. -
4 Covering Cloth
A soft, pure finished white cotton cloth used to cover the pillow, used for lace manufacture by hand. -
5 Electric Tape Cloth
A well-made pure cotton cloth, used in the manufacture of electric tapes. The yams are super quality and very regular. A standard quality is 36-in. wide, 108 ends and 92 picks per inch, 50's T., 52's W., super Egyptian yarns.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Electric Tape Cloth

6 Peruvian Cloth
A cloth much used for table covers. About 66-in. to 72-in. wide, made from heavy linen yarns dyed in dark shades of red, blue, brown, etc. Woven plain, but embroidered afterwards. Of Peruvian manufacture. -
7 Alligator Cloth
A trade name for a coarse, plain weave cotton fabric which is finished to imitate alligator skin, by coating with varnish. Used in the manufacture of cheap suitcases and upholstery. -
8 Pulped Cloth
Calico, having a coating of paper, while in a state of pulp, run upon its upper surface by a paper machine, which causes them to adhere firmly together. It is used for purposes which require more strength than can be obtained in paper, especially the manufacture of emery and glass cloths. -
9 Raynes, Cloth Of
RAYNES, CLOTH OFFine, plain weave linen constantly mentioned in mediaeval times, and named from Rennes in Brittany, the original place of manufacture. It retained its reputation in England as late as the 16th century. Used for shirts and fine bedding. -
10 Satin Cloth
A fine worsted dress fabric, made in satin weave and lustre finished, of French manufacture. Woven 27-in. to 30-in. wide. -
11 Tent Cloth
Many varieties and qualities of heavy waterproof cotton ducks or canvas for use in tent or awning manufacture. -

A species of so-called ramie grown in Japan. The fibre is not so strong as ramie. The plant is really China grass and has the same leaf, white on the lower surface. It is used for cloth manufacture and many other purposes. -
